Carl “Chip” Lange is a nationally certified physician assistant with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Emergency Medicine and an extensive clinical background spanning over a decade. His front-line experience includes emergency departments, rural EMS systems, and rural hospitals, where he performs advanced procedures such as endotracheal intubation, central line placement, and bedside ultrasonography.

Chip began his career in firefighting and EMS and has remained active in prehospital care throughout his professional life. He is currently practicing as an emergency medicine PA at a certified stroke and STEMI center, and serves as a PA in EMS for a rural agency.

 

Chip is the CEO and founder of Practical POCUS LLC, an educational company that has trained thousands of healthcare professionals nationwide in the use of point of care ultrasound. He is also the host of TOTAL EM, a longstanding FOAMed (Free and Open Access Medical Education) podcast and blog focusing on emergency care.

 

As a medicolegal expert witness, Chip provides unbiased, evidence-based consultation and testimony. He has served both plaintiffs and defendants and offers expertise in emergency medicine, PA practice, EMS, and the application of POCUS across a variety of clinical environments. His ability to communicate complex topics clearly and accurately has also made him a sought-after national speaker, educator, and published author in the fields of emergency medicine and diagnostic ultrasound.
